As a student at the University of Illinois, you pay two fees at
registration which cover services that should meet most of your health
care needs:
- The Health Service Fee is pre-payment for services provided
by McKinley Health Center and the Counseling Center. This fee is
mandatory for most students and optional for several categories of
part-time students. See the McKinley
Business Office page for fee and schedule information.
- The Student Health Insurance Fee pays for the University
sickness and accident insurance program for health care received
outside of McKinley Health Center. Students are required either to pay
this fee or to document that they have other health insurance coverage
equivalent to the University plan. For more information, visit the
Office of Student Insurance Web site at http://www.si.uiuc.edu.
The Health Service Fee pays for the primary services provided at
Mckinley:
The Health Service Fee does not pay for:
- Care provided or prescriptions filled outside McKinley Health Center
- Immunizations required by law prior to enrollment at the University
- Travel immunizations
Referrals*
*Sometimes a McKinley physician may feel that it is appropriate to
refer a patient to a community specialist. Charges for these outside
services are the responsibility of the student, but they may be covered by
insurance. McKinley recommends that you check with your insurance carrier
before obtaining medical services outside McKinley. If you have the
Student Health Insurance Plan, call 333-0165 to clarify coverage.
